GREENVILLE, S.C. — Drivers on Woodruff Road in Greenville, S.C., should plan for a tighter squeeze near Five Forks this week. The two westbound lanes of Woodruff Road are closed near the intersection with Godfrey Road while Piedmont Natural Gas repairs a gas line, the South Carolina Department of Transportation announced Monday, Oct. 5.
The lane closures were unplanned. Westbound traffic has been shifted into the center turn lane, while the two eastbound lanes are operating as normal. No detours are expected.
The gas company said work began Oct. 1 and crews are working 24 hours a day until the repair is complete. The utility expects the work to last through the end of the week, weather permitting, and said normal traffic patterns will return no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9.
The work zone is in the Five Forks area near Simpsonville. The utility is asking drivers to use caution when traveling through the work area, and residents with questions about the closure are asked to contact Piedmont Natural Gas.
