GREENVILLE, S.C. — Organizers announced this morning that today’s Fall for Greenville festival is canceled for Saturday as Hurricane Isaias leftovers brought strong winds and heavy rain to the Upstate, then set Sunday make-up hours for Main Street.

In announcing the cancellation, organizers will monitor tomorrow and plan to offer extended hours for Sunday’s final day. The hours for Sunday will be extended to 8 p.m., with a noon start, so restaurants can recover sales lost to the weather.

City staff and the Greenville Fire Department met Friday afternoon to discuss the impending weather conditions. Based on the current forecast, we are expecting sustained winds of approximately 20 mph, with the expectation for higher gusts, city materials said.

After further consultation with Professional Party Rentals and the manufacturers of the tents being used for the festival, it was confirmed that the industry safety standard requires evacuation of these tents if wind gusts reach 30 mph. A city spokesperson said Fall for Greenville is a rain or shine event, but not a severe weather event.

Greenville City Fire Department, Professional Party Rentals, and Parks, Recreation & Tourism staff met onsite at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, to continue monitoring weather conditions. Please stay home and avoid the event site until weather conditions have subsided and emergency personnel have cleared the site, officials advised.

For Greenville, S.C., visitors, Sunday’s noon-to-8 p.m. window is the remaining shot at the city’s largest food-and-music festival after Isaias wiped out Saturday on Main Street.
