Cherokee County, S.C. — The National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg office updated a flood warning Sunday morning that remains in effect until 2 p.m. Monday for minor flooding along the Broad River near Shelby Highway west of Blacksburg.

NWS said flooding continues at action stage between about 15 and 16 feet, with backwater effects possible on Buffalo Creek and flooding along River Road and Little Hope Road near US 29.

Adjacent farmland and low-lying areas were expected to stay inundated, and the weather service urged caution near riverbanks while promising another statement Sunday evening.

Residents in flood-prone areas and people camping in low ground were told to move to higher ground, lock homes if evacuating, and avoid basements where water may cover electrical outlets.

Forecasters warned that as little as 12 inches of fast-flowing water can carry away most vehicles and that even six inches of swift water can knock a person off their feet.

The Upstate warning package follows heavy weekend rains that also prompted storm-damage reports from Greenville County to Cherokee as rivers respond across the Broad basin.
