GREENVILLE, S.C. — Champion Coach, the Greenville company whose buses carry pro and college sports teams around the country, has a new owner. HF Companies, a family-owned investment firm based in Naples, Fla., has bought the business. The price was not made public.

Champion Coach started in 1998 with four white motorcoaches and, by its own account, began in a house basement. Today its fleet ranges from Sprinter vans built by Mercedes-Benz up to executive coaches that seat 56. Sports clients include the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees and Clemson University, and the company also moves corporate groups such as BMW and Michelin, along with schools and nonprofits.

Under the new owner, Champion Coach joins a transportation arm whose car service, medical transport and valet operations reach more than 350 cities. The buyer already holds more than 200 businesses.

The firm says its model is long-term ownership that keeps the brands, employees and leadership teams of the companies it buys in place. The Capital Corporation advised Champion Coach on the sale.
