GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. — A 28-year-old man from North Carolina died Friday after an industrial accident at an asphalt plant on Greencove Drive in Greenville County, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office said.

Coroner’s staff were called to the Panagakos Asphalt plant at about 11:45 a.m. on Oct. 23. He died at the scene, with the time of death listed as 11:50 a.m.

Coroner’s investigators and the county’s forensics division are examining the death, and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened its own inquiry. Officials have not said what kind of accident took place or what equipment was involved.

Panagakos Asphalt is a family-run Upstate company that makes asphalt at plants in Greenville and Gray Court. According to the company, it also handles paving, patching and seal coating work.
