GREENVILLE, S.C. — Downtown Greenville will host five days of live comedy next month when Alchemy Comedy Theater stages the 13th New South Comedy Festival from Nov. 11 through Nov. 15.
Shows are set for Coffee Underground at 1 E. Coffee St. Organizers say no comedy festival in the region has been running longer, and this year they have packed all of it into a single long weekend instead of spreading it out.
Stand-up, sketch, improv and variety acts are all on the lineup, with performers traveling in from around the country. Festival producer Tyler Prescott has described the event as a showcase for new comic talent, and workshops for performers run alongside the shows.
A festival show pass that covers every festival performance sells for $50 with fees, and the first night of shows opens on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 6:59 p.m. Tickets and the workshop schedule are posted on the theater website.
Comedians had until June 30 to apply for a slot, paying a $35 entry fee. Acts that were accepted pay nothing to attend the shows and receive a catered lunch on Saturday plus invitations to jam sessions and after parties.
