GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville Police Department has wrapped up its investigation into the death of actress Hayden Panettiere and will not file charges, the department said Wednesday.

Police said the decision rests on their own work and on the ruling of the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, which classified her death as accidental.

Panettiere, 36, died Aug. 16 in an apartment in the Judson Mill Lofts complex along Easley Bridge Road. Officers were called that day about a person who was not responding, and emergency crews worked on her before she was pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m.

The coroner’s final report, released in September, found that five drugs caused her death: fentanyl, quetiapine, alprazolam, 4-ANPP and methocarbamol. An autopsy found no trauma that played a role.

The Drug Enforcement Administration had been helping with the case. The agency has said it can assist local departments with drug-related death investigations but does not discuss specific cases.

Her 37th birthday was only days away. She is survived by an 11-year-old daughter.
