GREER, S.C. — Greenville High finally has a win over Greer that will stand, beating the Yellow Jackets 38-28 at Dooley Field on Friday night in the opening round of the SCHSL Class 4A playoffs.

The Red Raiders did most of the damage before halftime. Their junior quarterback threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as Greenville took a 28-7 lead into the break.

Greer would not go quietly. A senior running back scored twice in the second half to pull the Jackets back into it, but Greenville recovered an onside kick late to close the game out.

The result carried extra weight. When the two met about a month ago, Greenville won on the field 61-28, but that game was later ruled a 2-0 forfeit win for Greer after it was found that Greenville had played an ineligible athlete. That swing put Greer ahead in the Region 1-4A standings and gave it this home playoff date.

Greenville, now 6-5, travels to Westside on Nov. 13 in the second round of the Upper State bracket. Westside sat out the opening round with a bye. Greer finishes the season 7-4.
