Simpsonville – A Simpsonville couple, Maurice Donnell Cummings, 51, and Lauren Celeste Cummings, 47, have been arrested following a significant investigation into identity theft that led to the discovery of illegal drugs and counterfeit merchandise. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the couple after gathering evidence of their alleged involvement in fraudulent activities.

The investigation commenced in February 2025 when authorities began to suspect Maurice Cummings of stealing the identities of multiple victims. Reports indicate that he fraudulently obtained personal identification and financial information, enabling him to make unauthorized purchases. Maurice is accused of changing the victims’ addresses to redirect their mail, which allowed him to receive new South Carolina identification cards at his own address.

According to investigators, Maurice applied for loans and purchased electric dirt bikes using the victims’ identities. In one notable instance, at least one of these dirt bikes was reportedly sold on Facebook Marketplace through a fraudulent account, further complicating the web of deception.

On June 9, law enforcement executed search warrants at both the couple’s residence in Simpsonville and their business, Prints2Day, located in Greenville. During the searches, authorities uncovered a substantial quantity of illegal substances, specifically 157 pounds of marijuana and one pound of psilocybin mushrooms. The discovery raised alarms about the couple’s potential involvement in drug trafficking.

Additionally, investigators found multiple boxes containing counterfeit merchandise with an estimated value exceeding $100,000. The counterfeit goods, which included a variety of items, indicate a sophisticated operation aimed at profiting from illegal sales. Two electric dirt bikes obtained through the fraudulent activity were also seized during the searches.

As a result of these findings, Maurice Cummings has been charged with several counts related to identity theft, fraudulent activity, and drug possession. Lauren Cummings faces similar charges for her involvement in the crimes. Following their arrests, the couple was taken to the Greenville County Detention Center, where they are awaiting a bond hearing.

This case highlights the growing issue of identity theft and the significant consequences it can have for victims, as well as the potential interplay between fraud and drug-related crimes. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the couple’s activities, and the community remains vigilant against similar incidents.
