The division, known as TTI Floorcare North America, encompasses well-established brands including Hoover, Oreck, and Dirt Devil. The transition is expected to be seamless for customers and partners, with no interruptions to ongoing services, and is projected to conclude by June 1, 2026.
As part of its ongoing commitment to South Carolina, TTI has already invested more than $500 million in the state since 2019. The company has a substantial presence in the Anderson area, employing over 1,500 staff at its global innovation center, which boasts more than 500,000 square feet of office, engineering, and testing facilities, along with 3 million square feet dedicated to distribution and warehouse operations.
The CEO of TTI indicated that this relocation represents a pivotal moment for the company, aiming to enhance innovation and drive profitability. The Upstate region of South Carolina, however, has faced challenges in recent years, with multiple businesses shuttering their doors in 2024, including TTI’s own scaling back operations in the area.
Other companies have also announced closures in the region, contributing to an atmosphere of economic uncertainty. Gentherm, a key player in the automotive sector, is closing its Greenville operation, affecting 124 workers, while TTI’s Consumer Power Tools facility in Gaffney has announced its impending shutdown, impacting 114 employees. Denny’s plans to close 150 underperforming restaurants across the United States over the next year, in addition to Kohler’s decision to shut down its Spartanburg facility, which will result in 71 job losses.
American Freight is also undergoing bankruptcy proceedings and will be closing all its U.S. locations, including nine in South Carolina. In response to the economic challenges, Anderson County is planning to purchase the 535,000-square-foot TTI facility to facilitate future business relocations and support local economic development, supported by state grants. The total cost of this project includes $9 million for the facility acquisition and an additional $1 million for the temporary office spaces and workforce training initiatives.
TTI plans to gradually transfer its 1,200-person workforce from its current Pearman Dairy Road facility over a span of 12 to 15 months. The relocation is generating interest among five companies from outside the U.S., looking to set up operations in Anderson and leading to the need for temporary operational facilities.
The support from state and local governments underscores the belief that this relocation and expansion will serve as a long-term economic development strategy for the Upstate region of South Carolina. TTI is also advancing its current facility plans in Anderson, aiming to create 525 new jobs and develop a million-square-foot manufacturing and warehouse plant.
