Gardner-Webb Splits Doubleheader with Furman
GREENVILLE, S.C. –
The Gardner-Webb University softball team split a doubleheader with Furman University on Tuesday evening, showcasing strong performances in both games. The first game went into extra innings, with the Runnin’ Bulldogs eventually clinching an 8-5 victory in the 11th inning. However, the Paladins fought back in the second game to secure a 9-5 win, ending Gardner-Webb’s winning streak at 12 games.
Game One Highlights
In the first game, Gardner-Webb took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a clutch single from Ella Christopher that brought Andrea Lyon home. Furman responded with two runs in the second inning to tie the game. The Runnin’ Bulldogs continued to battle, with Kayleigh Nicholson delivering a key single to score Taylor Dreher in the fourth inning. The game remained tight until the 10th inning when GWU took the lead, only for Furman to tie things up again. In the 11th inning, Gardner-Webb exploded for four runs, securing the 8-5 victory. Annicka McLaughlin, Jailyn Tineo, Emily Garcia, and Lyon all scored in the decisive inning.

The second game saw Gardner-Webb score early with a run in the first inning, but Furman responded with an impressive five-run inning. The Runnin’ Bulldogs fought back, narrowing the deficit to 5-4, but Furman remained resilient. Adrienne Visintine homered in the fourth inning for Gardner-Webb’s final run of the game. Furman held on for a 9-5 victory, splitting the doubleheader with GWU.
