Converse University to Host Data Science and Cybersecurity Week
Converse University will host its fifth annual Data Science and Cybersecurity Week from September 25 through October 2, 2026. The event will focus on Data Insights in Public Health.
Jessica Sorrells, dean of the School of Business and Data Science and associate professor of mathematics at Converse, noted that the event has evolved into a campus-wide platform that highlights how data influences every modern industry.
A Datathon is scheduled for Friday, September 25, from Noon to 3 p.m. in the Barnet Room, Montgomery Student Center at Converse. This event, in partnership with Live Healthy Spartanburg, will involve students investigating the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences and chronic health conditions in Spartanburg County, as well as exploring methods to delay onset or provide prevention.
A networking event will take place on Tuesday, September 29, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Barnet Room, Montgomery Student Center at Converse. This gathering aims to connect students with local professionals and alumni.
Grace Bagwell Adams, a 2007 alumna and associate professor at the University of Georgia, will deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, September 30, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Barnet Room, Montgomery Student Center at Converse.
Converse’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science presents the event, in collaboration with Allison Vick, assistant professor of politics. Support is also provided by the Division of Student Development and Success and Career Development.
