Clemson Leadership Scholars Program Receives Significant Gift
Clemson University’s Thomas F. Chapman ’65 Leadership Scholars Program is set to expand its reach and increase financial support for students, following a $5.25 million commitment. This gift from Thomas F. Chapman and his wife, Karen, will enable the university to increase the number of students selected for the program annually, from 15 to 20. Additionally, the financial support for scholarships, program leadership, instruction, and experiences designed to develop student leaders will double.
The program and its supporting endowments will transition to the university’s Office of the President, establishing a university-wide structure. This move is intended to support continued growth and participation from students across all undergraduate colleges at Clemson. A dedicated program director will be supported by The Thomas F. Chapman ’65 Distinguished Director of the Leadership Scholars Program Endowment, overseeing the scholars program, its staff, leadership curriculum, and student experience.
Thomas F. Chapman and his wife initially established the program in 2008 with a $1 million gift. In 2017, they contributed an additional $4 million to create a permanent endowment and further expand the program across the university.
