GREENVILLE, S.C. — A grocery store is coming back to a long-empty building on North Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville, S.C. Food Lion will open a new store Oct. 21 at 2111 N. Pleasantburg Drive, the former Bi-Lo site.
The chain plans a ribbon-cutting at 7:45 a.m. that day, according to a company announcement Tuesday, Oct. 6. The building, near the intersection with Rutherford Road, has been vacant since 2021, when the Bi-Lo there closed.
The new store is about 42,000 square feet. It will be Food Lion’s fourth location in Greenville, joining three existing Greenville stores, including ones on Verdae Boulevard and at K-Mart Plaza. The company has said its new stores include ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook meals, fresh produce with in-store cut fruit, organic, gluten-free and plant-based items, self-checkout alongside staffed lanes, and online pickup or delivery.
Food Lion also opened a store in Simpsonville in March. Other shuttered Bi-Lo buildings in the Upstate are being reused as well, including one in Inman slated to become a Tractor Supply store in the spring.
