Greenville, S.C. — Upstate drivers heading through Oconee County face a long detour after the South Carolina Department of Transportation said it will close Snow Creek Road to replace the bridge over Snow Creek beginning Monday, Oct. 19.

Snow Creek Road, also signed as S-37-51, will be shut for the bridge replacement project. SCDOT estimates the closure will last until Thursday, March 18, 2027, weather permitting.

A detour will be posted for the duration of the work. Officials asked motorists to slow down and pay attention near the work zone while crews rebuild the crossing.

The announcement came Monday as SCDOT outlined the rural bridge schedule for Oconee County, giving travelers nearly a week of notice before the Oct. 19 start.

Drivers who normally cut through Snow Creek Road should plan alternate routes around Seneca-area roads before the gates go up next week.
