GREENVILLE, S.C. — People in Greenville County who get a summons for Circuit Court jury duty can now ask to put off their service through an online request, the county Clerk of Court announced Tuesday.
Clerk of Court Jay Gresham said the requests go straight to the Jury Services Department, replacing a process that used to be handled largely by hand. He said his office spent more than a year building the feature.
There are limits. An eligible juror may ask once to be moved to a different term of court, and that move still has to be approved. Filing a request does not by itself excuse anyone, so jurors should keep to the dates on their original summons until the office tells them a change went through.
Gresham described the tool as one step in updating the office and widening access to court services. Earlier work has included putting Family Court filings in digital form, posting more court information online and adding digital signs in the Circuit Court and Family Court buildings.
