Greenville, S.C – Greenlink, a public transportation agency serving the Greenville area in the Upstate, is witnessing an unprecedented rise in public transit use. To keep up with the growing demand that has exceeded pre-pandemic levels, the agency has announced plans to expand its workforce.
According to Greenlink, they now provide over 2,500 rides per day, a figure that demonstrates the urgent need for service expansion. Remarkably, among the few transit agencies nationwide, Greenlink recorded a ridership increase even in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency reported more than 750,000 trips on their buses in 2023 and expects the number to keep growing.
Plans for Service Expansion
Greenlink operates twelve routes from Monday through Friday, between 5:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., as well as on Saturdays, between 8.30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The agency reveals plans to extend these services to meet changing needs.
Leaders at Greenlink envisage extending Saturday services for service industry workers and others who want to enjoy their night out in the bustling city. The current Saturday schedule would be extended to last until 11:30 p.m.
Come January, Greenlink plans to add a second bus to four of their routes, reducing wait times between buses to 30 minutes.
High-Paying Jobs Up for Grabs
With these proposed changes comes the need for additional workforce. Greenlink is hiring in the area of drivers, mechanics, and salaried positions in operations and management. These are high-paying jobs, with pay ranges from $18 an hour to salaries of up to $160,000 annually.
Following the surge in demand for public transit, Greenlink recently inaugurated a brand new Maintenance and Operations Facility. The goal is to ultimately run a bus system seven days a week, three shifts a day, round the clock.
Job Fair for Interested Candidates
Greenlink announced it will host a job fair on Saturday, August 24th, to recruit new staff at the New Operations Facility located on 205 Arcadia Drive in Greenville.
