Taylors, SC – Doris Hunt, a beloved community figure and devoted family member, passed away peacefully, but leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication. Doris, who was married to her husband Rodney Hunt for 68 years, is remembered fondly by family, friends, and the community for her unwavering commitment to both family and community service. Doris predeceased her husband, Rodney, who passed away in May 2024.

Doris Hunt was born on August 27, 1935, in Greenville, SC, to Alvin and Mabel Ward. After graduating from Taylors High School, where she excelled in basketball, she began a long career at Canal Insurance Company in Greenville, SC, working for over 46 years and rising to the position of Executive Vice President. Doris was a dedicated member of Taylors First Baptist Church and actively participated in the Good News Club Children’s Ministry, catering to children ages 5-12.

Survived by her sister Marion Estes, Doris is also remembered by her three sons: Mike, Mark (Sara), and Marty (Jodie). Her family continues her legacy with six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Doris prayed daily for each family member and had a deep-rooted adoration for them.

Funeral services for Doris will take place on Saturday, October 11, at 2:00 PM at The Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) in Greenville, SC.

Rodney Brockman Hunt, Doris’s husband, was born in Double Springs, South Carolina, and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 25, 2024, after a long and honorable life. He served as a Major in the United States Air Force for 20 years and was a founding member and Captain of the Taylors Volunteer Fire Department. Rodney also helped establish St. Luke’s Southern Methodist Church in Taylors.

Rodney graduated from Clemson University and had a varied career that included roles in the savings and loan industry, as well as becoming a real estate broker and appraiser. He was a devoted member of Taylors First Baptist Church and is survived by his wife Doris, their three sons: Rodney Michael “Mike” Hunt (Nina), Mark Lynn Hunt (Sara), and Timothy Martin “Marty” Hunt (Jodie). He was also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Graham, Drew, Ryan, Justin, Grace, and Emily, and had four great-grandchildren: River, Gibson, Harper, and McKayla. Rodney was predeceased by his brothers, Walter Hunt and Randall Young.

Rodney’s funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at The Wood Mortuary Chapel, led by Dr. Jimmie Harley. Visitation will occur from 12:30 to 1:45 PM prior to the service. Memorials in Rodney’s honor may be made to The Gideons International.

Doris and Rodney Hunt exemplified a strong commitment to their community and family, and their memories will linger in the hearts of those who knew them.
