Greenville’s Road and Water Infrastructure Challenges

Construction on a street in Greenville, SC, with traffic barriers and signs.

News Summary

Greenville residents are facing significant disruptions due to ongoing road repairs on Grove Road and a recent water main break on Woodruff Road. The lane reductions for the roadway repair project, funded by the Neighborhood Infrastructure Bond, aim to enhance safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians but will result in temporary traffic delays. Additionally, major repairs from a water main break have intensified the commuting challenges. Looking ahead, bridge replacements are scheduled for 2025 following the damage from Tropical Storm Helene, prompting residents to prepare for further detours.

Greenville Faces Road Woes and Water Woes

Hey, Greenville residents! Buckle up because it seems like our beloved city is currently navigating a bumpy ride, quite literally. As a part of a significant roadway repair and repaving project on Grove Road, many of you will notice fewer lanes as everything from Augusta Street to Henrydale Avenue shrinks from four to three lanes. If you’re headed towards the Greenville Memorial Hospital area, prepare for some delays!

Lane Reductions Galore!

This project, funded by the Neighborhood Infrastructure Bond, aims not just for a smoother drive but also looks out for our cyclists and pedestrians. Traffic is expected to slow down a little, which is not such a bad thing for safety, right? However, motorists, be prepared for ongoing lane closures over the next three to four months as work continues with milling, patching, and restriping activities.

Paving Plans for the Future

As we await warmer weather, paving of the entire roadway from Augusta Street all the way to the city limits near Centennial Way is slated to kick off in the spring. Hold tight, everyone! The icing on the cake will be the high-visibility crosswalks and additional safety enhancements that will definitely make a difference in how we navigate our streets.

Water Main Mayhem on Woodruff Road

16-inch water main caused major havoc, shutting down the entire eastbound lane and creating a sinkhole! Talk about a surprise on your morning commute!

Hard at Work for Repairs

It took crews around 14 hours to get everything back on track with the repair mission finishing by 7:42 p.m. Thankfully, all valves are back online, but don’t expect the road to be open just yet. Paving is still in the works, and motorists will have to wait until Saturday before they can use that stretch of road again.

Storm Aftermath: Bridge Repairs in 2025

Tropical Storm Helene made landfall on September 27, causing significant destruction across South Carolina. With scores of homes and businesses damaged and even loss of life, it’s clear we’ve been through a lot!

Bridge Replacements on the Way

Timeframe for Construction

Plan Ahead!

In light of all these changes, a public information meeting about the repairs to the bridge over the Enoree River on Highway 146 is scheduled for September 24. If you’re concerned about the traffic and infrastructure in your area, this could be a great opportunity to gain some insight!

So, hang in there, Greenville! A smoother and safer ride is just around the corner, even if the journey to get there feels like a bit of a rollercoaster!
