Women volunteers building a home for Habitat for Humanity

News Summary

Habitat for Humanity recently welcomed Amber Meihofer and her family to their new home in Greenville County, made possible through the Women’s Build Initiative. The program empowers local women to come together and build homes while fostering community connections. Various organizations, including Spero Financial and BASF, collaborated to support this event, showcasing the strength of community spirit. This initiative not only addresses local housing needs but also creates hope and stability for families like Meihofer’s, representing over 420 homes built by Habitat since 1985.

Greenville County Welcomes a New Home for Amber Meihofer and Family

In Greenville County, excitement is in the air as Habitat for Humanity rolled out the welcome mat for Amber Meihofer and her family, who have just stepped into their brand-new home on Sturtevant Street. This heartwarming event is a shining example of community spirit, made possible through the Women’s Build Initiative.

The Power of Women Coming Together

Habitat Greenville’s Women’s Build program is truly something special. It encourages local women to unite and lend their hands to build homes within the community. This initiative not only offers an incredible opportunity for women to make a tangible impact but also fosters connections among them, creating friendships that last a lifetime.

A Generous Community

Amber’s new home didn’t appear out of thin air; it was supported by a range of organizations and individuals who believe in the power of helping others. Key sponsors included Spero Financial, BASF, DRB Homes, and Bitsy Cazel from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices – C. Dan Joyner Realtors. Additional support came from grants provided by the South Carolina Realtors Association and W.W. Burgiss Charities, making this project possible.

The collaboration didn’t stop there; local partners such as the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority and the Nimble Thimble Quilters Guild jumped in as well to make this a reality. Carol Hoffman and Greg Hammond were also on board, showing just how far-reaching the community support went.

Building a New Neighborhood

The neighborhood surrounding Sturtevant Street has a compelling backstory. It was conceived after Creative Builders and Fitch Irick transformed the area with The Assembly Apartments from 2017 to 2022. Their generosity is highlighted by the donation of 1.7 acres of undeveloped land to Habitat Greenville, which paved the way for nine new homes to be built for families in need.

Creating Homes with Heart

At the heart of this initiative is LaTonya Phillips, the CEO and President of Habitat Greenville. With a passion for improving lives, she noted how important the Women’s Build program is in supporting women and children who may be facing poor living conditions. Through this initiative, families like Amber’s can achieve stability and a brighter future.

Amber’s Journey to Homeownership

For Amber Meihofer, this moment is the culmination of a journey that began six years ago when a friend, who was already a Habitat homeowner, encouraged her to consider homeownership. With determination and hard work, she took the leap and became one of the many families benefitting from Habitat for Humanity’s mission.

A Legacy of Building Lives

Since its inception in 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County has been on a mission to construct affordable, energy-efficient homes, promoting strength and self-reliance among families. As of December, they have successfully completed over 420 homes, transforming lives and neighborhoods in the process.

Your Chance to Make a Difference

Every nail driven and wall built represents not just a house but a home where families can thrive. With the support of local organizations, businesses, and volunteers, Habitat Greenville continues to bring hope and new beginnings to the community.
