Greenville, SC – LaunchGVL celebrated the accomplishments of local high school students with the awarding of surprise scholarships during its annual end-of-year celebration on April 30, 2024. A total of twelve students were honored with scholarships that recognize their hard work and commitment in completing internships through the program during the 2023-24 school year.
The event not only showcased the achievements of these scholarship recipients but also celebrated 154 high school students who successfully completed LaunchGVL internships. USC Upstate and the Greenville Chamber Foundation played significant roles in awarding these scholarships. USC Upstate presented scholarships to seven students who completed their internships and applied to attend the university. Among these, four students will each receive $2,200 scholarships each year for their enrollment, while three others were awarded full-tuition scholarships. The students who received scholarships from USC Upstate include:
- Kennady Dixon
- Madison Etris
- Presley Moon
- Anari Oglesby
- Jamari Townsend
- Markayla Wright
- Ana Zelaya
In addition to the scholarships provided by USC Upstate, the Greenville Chamber Foundation awarded five $1,000 scholarships. The recipients of these scholarships are:
- Amari Anthony-Kittles
- Lucero Fierros
- Annelie Jones
- Trisha Raj
- Jamari Townsend (who also received a scholarship from USC Upstate)
The selection process for the scholarship recipients took place during a live drawing at the ceremony, lending an element of excitement and surprise to the event. This year’s celebration not only recognized the academic achievements of the students but also highlighted the importance of experiential learning through internships, which LaunchGVL facilitates.
LaunchGVL has made significant strides since its inception, offering students the chance to gain valuable work experience while still in high school. By connecting students with employers in the Greenville area, the program equips them with skills that are critical for future success in higher education and the workforce. The scholarships awarded at the end-of-year celebration serve as both an acknowledgment of students’ accomplishments and a stepping stone to further their educational goals.
As LaunchGVL continues to grow, it remains committed to fostering opportunities for students in Greenville County. For more information about the program and its offerings, interested individuals can visit the official website at launchgvl.org.
