Greenville – Nancy Lavinia Bishop Hester, an esteemed member of the Greenville community, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the age of 86. Her passing has left a profound impact on those who knew her.
Born in Greenville County, South Carolina, Nancy was raised in the Poe Mill Community. She was the daughter of the late Eugene Edward and Grace Geneva LaFoy Bishop and spent her formative years in this vibrant area. After graduating from Parker High School in 1957, where she distinguished herself as the President of the Future Business Leaders of America (F.B.L.A.), Nancy began a career that exemplified her commitment to serving her community.
In her professional life, Nancy initially worked at Winn Dixie in their offices before dedicating her talents to the Greenville County School District. There, she made a considerable impact as a cafeteria worker and bus driver, contributing to the welfare of countless students.
Nancy was a lifelong member of Reedy River Baptist Church, having grown up attending the Poe Mill Baptist Church. Her devotion to her faith was reflected in her active participation in various church ministries and her service as the treasurer of the Dorcus Sunday School Class. She was widely regarded as a pillar of her church community.
In addition to her professional and church commitments, Nancy enjoyed a variety of leisure activities. Her interests included archery, sewing, and traveling, all of which allowed her to connect with others and explore the world around her.
Nancy was married to her beloved husband, Daniel (Dan) Hester, for 59 years, during which they raised two sons together. She is survived by her sons, David W. Hester and his wife, Lisa Edwards Hester, and Adam E. Hester. Additionally, she leaves behind two granddaughters, Alexandria Hester and Addison Hester. Nancy is also survived by her sister-in-law, B.D. Bishop. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Bobby E. Bishop.
The family will hold a visitation on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church. Following the visitation, a funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., after which she will be laid to rest at the Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
For those who wish to honor her memory, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund. Donations can also be made online.
