A devoted member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church and a prominent figure in the local real estate market, Haselwood made significant contributions to the housing industry over her lifetime.
Born on October 2, 1942, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Shirley was the daughter of the late William Edward Flanagan and Shirley Jean Hardee Flanagan. She grew up in Palm Beach and graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1960. Her academic journey continued at Emory University, where she earned her B.B.A. with high honors and became known as a trailblazer, reportedly being the only female student regularly seen in the business school’s halls.
Shirley was an active member of campus life, joining the Delta Delta Delta sorority and being elected the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity “Sweetheart.” After establishing her roots in Columbia, South Carolina, she became well-known as a dynamic figure in the real estate industry, developing hundreds of homes through her company, Curry & Company.
Throughout her career, Shirley shared her design and building expertise with countless friends in Greenville, South Carolina, further cementing her legacy in the community. Outside of her professional life, she and her husband, Lewis Worley Haselwood, Jr., embraced a passion for travel, visiting 47 U.S. states as well as various countries around the world.
Shirley was also a loving pet owner, enjoying the companionship of her two miniature dachshunds, Lilly and Lucy. Her familial ties included her husband, Lewis, whom she was married to for 25 years, and her daughters, Collum Curry Posey of Laurel, Mississippi, and Molly Curry Sherard of Spartanburg, South Carolina. In addition to her daughters, she leaves behind her step-son Richard Watson Haselwood of Baku, Azerbaijan, and step-daughter Elizabeth Ann Haselwood of Denver, Colorado. Shirley’s brother, Edward William Flanagan, Jr. resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado, along with several other family members who cherish her memory.
Shirley is survived by a legacy that includes her grandchildren: Isabella Parker Posey, Jack Curry Posey, Christopher Van Posey II, Curry Cheves Sherard, Molly McCuen Sherard, and Birney Bronaugh Sherard, as well as step-grandchildren Azret Sultanov, Alexander Temur Haselwood, David Dastan Haselwood, and Jassim Ayman Ebrahim. She was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Birney Curry, Jr., who passed away in 1996.
A private memorial service will take place on May 26, 2025, at the family home in Greenville, officiated by Reverend David M. Adams, Jr. Those wishing to honor Shirley’s memory can make memorial contributions to St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Greenville. The family has requested that arrangements be made through Robinson Funeral Homes, as they gather to reflect on the life of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.
