The impact was severe, leading the Honda to also collide with a 2024 Ford Expedition following the initial crash. The devastating sequence of events resulted in the immediate death of the driver of the Honda, as well as the driver and one passenger of the Toyota.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that the Honda only had one occupant, and the identities of the two victims in the Toyota remain undisclosed at this time. Fortunately, the occupants of the Ford Expedition, which included the driver and five passengers, survived the crash without any serious injuries.
In the aftermath of the collision, the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 were temporarily closed to allow emergency responders to handle the scene. The lanes have since been reopened as investigations continue into the cause of the accident.
Victims Identified
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has identified one of the deceased as 36-year-old Nicholas Sinclair Young, a resident of Moncks Corner. An autopsy for Young has been scheduled for Monday, June 9, to determine the exact cause of death. The identities of the other victims from the Toyota are pending release as authorities work to notify their families.
