Greenville Sues McDaniel Developers Over Stormwater Runoff Damage

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Greenville filed suit against the builders behind The McDaniel townhomes on McBee Avenue, arguing runoff from the stalled site chewed up city ground reserved for a Swamp Rabbit Trail spur.

Named on the complaint are a pair of McBee Townhomes entities along with Keene Development Group. The McDaniel plan calls for roughly 20 units in buildings near the East McBee and McDaniel Avenue corner, with work under way since 2023.

Court papers say large volumes of storm and surface water left the McBee tract onto city property in 2024. Officials contend that parcel held steady before building started and that repeated flows carved erosion and a fissure that left the ground unsafe.

The city wants the land for the Zoo Trail piece of the Swamp Rabbit network and says engineers must restabilize it before trail work can resume. The complaint seeks money damages from the developers.

Builders told one reporter they had not been served yet and would not comment until then. A Thursday evening round of calls to City Hall and the companies had drawn no reply by that night.
