GREENVILLE, S.C. — President Donald Trump is expected in Greenville County next Wednesday, Oct. 21, for a campaign rally supporting U.S. Sen. Darline Graham, local Republican leaders said, though no site or start time has been released.
Jeff Davis, who chairs the Greenville County Republican Party, said arrangements are still being worked out but that party members are eager to host the president. Graham, speaking Oct. 14 at a press event alongside Upstate law enforcement leaders, called a visit likely but stopped short of confirming it.
Sheriff Hobart Lewis of Greenville County said his office is preparing for a tentative presidential visit. Talks with the Secret Service will continue over the next several days, and some of its staff are expected on the ground by week’s end. Lewis said the rally is expected at a closed venue somewhere in the county.
The stop would mark the second time Trump has campaigned for Graham, who took over the Senate seat held by her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham. The president rallied for her Aug. 21 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center ahead of her Republican primary runoff against U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman.
Graham is now seeking a full term against Democrat Annie Andrews, a Charleston pediatrician, and several polls show a close contest. The two candidates met in an Oct. 11 debate that touched on rising costs, health care and data centers.
Trump is also reported to be planning a stop in Greenville, N.C., on Oct. 20, the day before the South Carolina event.
