GREENVILLE, S.C. — Russell Stall, a former two-term member of Greenville City Council, has been given the Order of the Palmetto, the top civilian award the state of South Carolina hands out.
State Rep. Chandra Dillard presented the honor Wednesday night in front of a crowded room of family, friends and supporters. The award is meant for South Carolinians whose lifetime achievement and service carry statewide or national weight.
Stall now runs the Greenville County Historical Society as its executive director. He served on council from 2017 to 2025, and earlier he started Greenville Forward, a nonprofit built around a long-range vision for the county known as Vision 2025.
Before that he owned a marketing research firm that focused on community revitalization. A Greenville native, he holds a doctorate in planning and the built environment from Clemson University.
His volunteer record includes 11 years as class facilitator for Leadership Greenville, mentoring young professionals through a chamber program, and helping launch the first TEDx event in South Carolina. Stall said the award told him his work in the community has mattered.
