The true flourishing of the neighborhood occurred in the 1910s and 1920s, driven by a post-World War I building boom and the prosperity of local businessmen and mill owners. This period saw the construction of most of the district's 74-87 contributing buildings, characterized by popular early 20th-century revival architectural styles. The district was notably designed as an "early automobile neighborhood," with homes featuring large front yards, side driveways, and rear garages to accommodate the burgeoning car culture.
