Greenville, South Carolina – Greenville County Schools are set to offer free meals to children and teens under the USDA Seamless Summer Food Service Program, beginning May 27 and running through July 31, 2025. This initiative aims to ensure that children aged 18 years or younger in the Greenville County area have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months.

All children within the age limit will be eligible to receive free meals, which will be available on-site at various schools across the county. The program includes breakfast and lunch options, ensuring that families can rely on the school system to help feed their children during the summer vacation.

Meal Availability and Locations

The Roper Mountain Science Center will serve lunch every day from May 28 to July 26, Monday through Saturday. Additionally, every high school in the district, with the exception of Hillcrest High School, will provide both breakfast and lunch from May 27 to July 31, accessible Monday through Thursday. However, meals will not be served at high schools during the week of July 4.

Elementary and Middle Schools

Several select middle and elementary schools will also participate, offering breakfast and lunch starting June 2 and continuing until June 26, operating Monday through Thursday. Participating middle schools include Beck, Berea, Bryson, Greer, Lakeview, Tanglewood, and Woodmont. The elementary schools that will serve meals are Alexander, A.J. Whittenberg, Berea, Bryson, Buena Vista, Chandler Creek, Cherrydale, Ellen Woodside, Heritage, Lake Forest, Mauldin, Monarch, Monaview, Mountain View, Plain, Sara Collins, Summit Drive, Taylors, and T.E. Kerns.

Curbside Meal Pickup

For families unable to dine on-site, curbside meal pickup will be available at Slater Marietta Elementary, Rudolph Gordon School, and Ellen Woodside Elementary. To obtain curbside meals, a parent or guardian must present documentation such as a student ID, report card, or birth certificate. Curbside meals will consist of bulk meal packs providing food for three to four days, ensuring families have multiple meals available at once.

Curbside meal pickups will take place twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays from June 2 to July 24, with the exception of the week of July 4 when no meals will be distributed.

Purpose of the Program

The Seamless Summer Food Service Program is designed to bridge the gap in food insecurity that many families face during the summer when school meals are unavailable. By providing free and nutritious meals, the Greenville County Schools aim to support the health and well-being of children in the community. The program ensures that all eligible children have the opportunity to maintain proper nutrition during their time off from school.

In summary, the Greenville County Schools are committed to addressing food needs for young people this summer through accessible meal programs, demonstrating a comprehensive effort to combat food insecurity and promote healthy eating among children and teens.
