He spent 10 years in the School Enforcement Division, where he was dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive environment in schools. His daughter, Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputy Cat Jumper, spoke about his commitment to the community and how he positively impacted the lives of many students.

During the ceremony, a new sign for the Sgt. William Conley Jumper Jr. School Security Center was unveiled. The location of the center is 2 Space Drive in Taylors, South Carolina. The Greenville County School Board of Trustees unanimously approved the naming of the center in May, recognizing Jumper’s impact on school safety and his legacy of service.

Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis praised Jumper for his integrity and passion, noting that he embodied the true spirit of public service. Superintendent Burke Royster addressed those gathered for the ceremony, expressing that everyone who enters the center will be reminded of Jumper’s sacrifice and will be inspired to emulate his example. Sgt. William Conley Jumper Jr. was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina Upstate and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. In addition to his career in law enforcement, he served as a task force officer for Homeland Security. His bravery in the line of duty did not go unnoticed; he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor for his actions leading to his tragic death.

The dedication of the security center stands as a tribute to Sgt. Jumper’s lifelong dedication to serving and protecting the community, particularly the youth within the schools of Greenville County.
