Six people have been arrested in Greenville County following a months-long Sheriff’s Office investigation into alleged child sex crimes dating back to 1998, with former Greenville police officers and a recently hired Greenville firefighter among those charged.
Authorities say multiple victims have come forward over the course of the investigation, more charges are possible, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Specialized Investigations Division.
Who has been charged
GCSO confirmed that the six arrested include individuals previously employed by the City of Greenville Police Department and the Greenville City Fire Department. The agencies have referred personnel questions to their respective internal-affairs offices and the Sheriff’s Office.
Why this matters for Greenville
The case is one of the broadest child sex crimes investigations the Sheriff’s Office has publicly disclosed in recent years. Investigators say the allegations span more than two decades and involve multiple alleged victims. The Specialized Investigations Division is asking anyone who may have been affected — or who has information about other potential victims — to come forward.
What’s next
Bond determinations have varied across the six defendants. The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office will handle prosecution. Investigators emphasized the case is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
