Two Travelers Rest residents are facing Homicide by Child Abuse charges following a months-long investigation into the death of a four-year-old in their care, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said.
Nancy Dianne West, 42, and Bradley Kyle Craig, 46, were arrested at their Travelers Rest home by members of the GCSO Fugitive Apprehension Specialized Investigations Team. Both are being held at the Greenville County Detention Center awaiting bond hearings.
What investigators say happened
Deputies initially responded to 1318 Chinquapin Road in Travelers Rest on April 24 after a 911 call about an unresponsive child. The child was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
GCSO investigators allege West and Craig — the child’s legal guardians at the time — deprived the child of proper nutrition.
Why this matters for Greenville
The case is the second high-profile homicide-by-child-abuse arrest in Greenville County in the past 12 months and falls under the sheriff’s office Homicide Unit caseload. South Carolina classifies homicide by child abuse as a Class A felony carrying a sentence of 20 years to life.
What’s next
Both defendants will appear before a Greenville County magistrate for bond determinations. Cases of this severity typically move to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office for prosecution.
The South Carolina Department of Social Services has not publicly commented on the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
