EASLEY, South Carolina — A gathering on Highland Road in Easley ended before dawn Sunday with one person stabbed, a second person hurt, and a driver in custody after a pursuit that crossed into Greenville County.
Pickens County deputies were called around 3:17 a.m. to the 1300 block of Highland Road. They found someone with stab wounds in the upper torso. Emergency crews took that person to Greenville Memorial Hospital, the Prisma Health campus in the city of Greenville. Neither report gives the person's name, age, or condition beyond the transport.
Deputies put out a lookout for a possible suspect. Easley police then found a vehicle near the scene whose driver matched the description they had been given. When officers tried to talk with the driver, the vehicle left. Easley officers and Pickens deputies followed. The pursuit entered Greenville County. It ended on White Horse Road, where Greenville County deputies stopped the car and arrested the driver.
The driver has not been named. One report says the person was taken to the Pickens County Detention Center. The other says the person was brought back to Pickens County to face charges. A Sunday morning account from the Pickens sheriff's office, carried in the later of the two reports, uses the phrase attempted murder for the person arrested. The earlier report describes the arrest and does not list that charge. Until both accounts state the same booking language, the charge itself should be treated as unconfirmed here.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Highland Road location. During that search they found another person who had been hurt. That person went by ambulance to Easley Baptist Hospital. Again, no name was released.
Investigators say the scene had been a social gathering and that a large amount of alcohol was consumed. They are still trying to learn who was there and what charges fit. One of the two reports adds that authorities called the case isolated and said the wider public was not in danger. The other report does not include that sentence.
Easley sits in Pickens County, outside the city limits of Greenville, South Carolina, and inside the same daily news orbit. White Horse Road, where the car was stopped, is on the Greenville County side of that line. No weapon was described in either account, and no count of party guests was given. The public record in the two reports stops at the time, the block, the two hospital transports, the county-line pursuit, the White Horse Road stop, and an arrest whose full charging documents were not laid out the same way in both stories.
