Greenville, S.C.: statewide gas average falls below $4

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Drivers in Greenville, S.C., and across the rest of the state are getting some relief at the pump. The statewide average price of gas fell 21 cents per gallon over the past week to $3.87, bringing it back below $4, according to a survey of 3,028 South Carolina stations by the fuel-price tracker GasBuddy.

Even after the drop, the state average is 15 cents a gallon higher than a month ago and $1.12 higher than a year ago. A separate reading from AAA put South Carolina’s average at $3.92 a gallon, with diesel averaging $5.84.

Prices still vary widely from station to station. The cheapest station in South Carolina was selling gas for $3.23 a gallon Sunday, while the most expensive was charging $4.99, a difference of $1.76.

Nationally, the average fell 12.5 cents in a week to $4.30 a gallon Monday, which is 19.3 cents higher than a month ago and $1.22 higher than a year ago. AAA put the national average at $4.37. Gas and diesel prices both fell in 48 states over the past week.
